Darias said that the “very stable epidemiological situation of the Covid-19 pandemic in all indicators has meant that the experts who make up the Alerts Committee have decided that it is the right time” to stop using masks on buses, trams and the metro.
The royal decree to be drafted by the government to implement this measure will be the sixth related to masks since the pandemic began. The first was approved on 4 May 2020, in the first phase of the de-escalation, and only affected public transport.
The use of face masks is recommended in very busy enclosed spaces and face masks will continue to be compulsory in health centres after 7 February.
But while face masks are set to be scrapped on public transport countrywide, some holiday hotspots could bring Covid restrictions back after a rise in cases in the country. Andalusia, a popular region with British holidaymakers, has become the first major location in Spain to hint about the return of tougher regulations.
President of the regional government, Juanma Moreno, has asked for “maximum precautions” and wouldn’t rule out the “adoption of preventative measures”. He said: “Prevention is better than cure and it is better to be two little steps in front rather than two little steps behind.”

Ulla JacksonThere is no "driving licence issue" other than the fact that you need to take a test, something you'd also have to do if you moved to say, California. The entire "diplomatic exercise" is simply to make it more convenient (for Brits, specifically). But nobody is denying Brits a driving licence. They just can't be bothered. It's pretty obvious that these unsophisticated third world places like Spain and California are just jealous of British sophistication and so impose these unfair burdens on Britons. What other reason could there be?
Morgan WilliamsNoone trying to punish you, it's in you own minds only. Noone is jealous of you either, still only in your own minds. Re what you DO like is when Britain make it happen, that does not applying to the driving licences in Spain, as nothing seems to happens despite "reassurance" by the British ambassador in Spain.
Ulla JacksonTabloid Protocol If it's something we DON'T like, it's because of jealous foreigners trying to punish Britain. if it's something we DO like, it's because Britain made it happen. Naturally 🇬🇧
James WalkerYeah it's all a conspiracy! All them scientists are lying. Where's David Icke, he knows the truth. The earth is flat, where's me tin hat gone?
Morgan WilliamsAre you having a joke?! "Britain forced them to do that"! Which planet are you living on, that you still believe Britain is ruling the world?
I lquestion the headline. Boost for BRITISH TOURISM! Obviously not a boost for any other nationalities. Love it how narrow minded these headlines are sometimes
Zoltan do you still wear your mask to bed? What number of pointless boosters are you on? Number 5?
It's a good job Britain forced them to do that.
What a boost to British tourism, the chance to spread and catch covid!
