The sixteen-member Black Heritage Choir is from Mississippi.

Its director is pianist, organist and composer Jerry Calvin Smith, who is a professor at Jackson State University.

The Black Heritage Choir, a selection of singers from the Mississippi Mass Choir, is currently touring a special celebration of soul and R&B singer Aretha Franklin, who in January 1972 recorded a live album at the New Temple Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles.

Accompanied by the South California Community Choir, this double album was ‘Amazing Grace’, her best-selling disc and the highest-selling live gospel music album of all time. The choir’s concert will feature all the songs from the album plus other hits by Aretha Franklin.
